Summer Vacation No Longer!

I wish that I could say this is where I am spending my summer writing this post after a long hiatus (which I do apologize!) The last two months have been quite a bit. School ending, my baby bro graduating from high school, adjusting to one of our long time employees and a good friend leaving, it seems like I would never pick up my laptop again and write.

But as any good writer knows, you should write every day, even if you don’t want to because it’s supposed to help you, or so I’ve heard.

Finally June, it seems like we all can take a breather and even if we can’t take that long weekend vacation that we oh so desire, we can at least go to the Victoria’s Secret Semi-Annual sale this weekend! Two for one bras anyone?

What’s the best thing you love about the Semi-Annual Sale?

I think that I’ve paid off my Victoria’s Secret credit card about three times now, and still wish I could rack it up without consequences! Then again don’t we all.

One of the things I think I detest about summer is that I want to buy all new clothes and know that my credit cards shouldn’t be let out of my Kate Spade wallet, that hasn’t gotten that much attention or gotten out in awhile.

Do you get that summer temptation for new clothes, cuter clothes, because last summer you were a completely different person with completely different taste and now, you’re more grown up and want a style to fit your mood and your attitude, plus cute outfits for date night!

I don’t know if any of you have been by Target lately to see their new Rivera or The Webster lines, but they are cute with a capital C. Miami chic inspired they are perfect for the beach or vacation at a price that will make any girl happy, even guys. Mike bought a pair of white pants, cotton blend, amazing feel, only 30 bucks! And as many of you girls know, shopping with your guy can be a bit of a hassle because they are pickier than we are!

This summer is filled with great fashion picks with money left over to take that week vacation and show of your new looks and possibly get a tan poolside while reading something of substance…I.E. NOT Fifty Shades of Grey.

The Webster for Target

Which I do want to mention, for he gets little press in the U.S, my favorite author of all time, Elliot Perlman, has just released his new book The Street Sweeper, after nine years. It took him 5 years to write the book, an epic novel I might add which I think all of you should go out and buy right now because it is amazing. Don’t get discouraged by the length, it is about 700 pages but you will not be disappointed with this novel.

So now, back after a two month hiatus, Literate & Stylish is back, and I could not be more pleased. For all of you who were checking and looking back to see if anything was written in the past I’m sorry; but writing is back for the summer and more local artists are to come in the future!

Happy Reading!

South Beach Bringing the Heat.

So now that Easter is over and summer is almost here, the newest thing to think about is Mike & I’s anniversary trip to Miami next month!

Which gives much to think about vacation fashion and what to wear. When I was down in Mexico, all I really wore all week was my bikini and cover-up not caring what my hair looked like I didn’t give a damn. But now that we’re going to Miami this summer, it’s time to up the ante on the fashion and hair products.

I’m super excited for South Beach, for the fashion, food and fun but also to spend some quality time with Mike down by the water on the beach getting an amazing tan.

So what to bring while on a romantic South Beach get away for the week?

  • Number one is of course an adorable, hot bikini.
Preferably something white, where you can show off the amazing tan, and if you have blonde hair like me, it’ll make that beach bum look even cuter with the sun kissed skin. If you have darker hair  a red bikini (unless you burn easily) would look really cute, or perhaps if you burn easily or have red hair a green or black print bikini will bring out your skin natural undertones and the highlights in your hair.
  • Number two is the best cover-up for your body type.
Whether you’re a petite or full-figured girl, you’ll need the best cover-up to wear right after you’re out of the beach and going straight out to day date or out on the town shopping. For someone who is petite, a strapless cover-up above the knee will make the illusion of longer legs. For someone who is fuller in figure a halter top right at the knee which can show off what you want, and hide what you don’t.
  • Number three is a hot dress to go dancing in.
Whether you’re in a relationship or single, you need a dress that is a showstopper. Make all the guys want to dance with you, and all the girls envy you. Perhaps a green or white dress with a pair of nude heels, (which are very hot right now).
  • Number four is the best hat to go with your bikini.
Red hat, blue hat, polka dot, big, small. Sunglasses with a teeny weeny bikini would look so cute and block getting horrible sunburn on your face. Which, trust me…hurts!

What are your plans for the summer vacation season? Overseas to Nice, or Cancun to party all summer?

What will be on your carry on bag/necessities for your summer vacation stay?

Where I seem to find the best resort wear mostly is Marshalls or TJ Maxx. Very cute bikinis at a cheap price, towels and of course beach bags. Tommy Hilfiger to Juicy Couture, Coach to Vera Bradley, they have pretty much any brand on the cheap!

Also the best bikinis I’ve ever owned were from Victoria’s Secret, I know a little on the pricey side, but for $50 you get a lasting bikini that is wave proof, and will make all the boys eyes on you.

If you want to spend a little bit more money on your vacation wardrobe Nordstrom’s Rack has amazing clothes, even more amazing designers for a little bit more than TJ’s or Marshalls and doesn’t have layaway but it’s worth the cost!

Where do you go for all your summer fashion needs?

Good Friday? More Like Busy Friday!

Have you ever had one of those days where from the minute you wake up you’re doing, doing, doing? Well, today is one of those days! And a Friday none the less. School this morning, on of course a beautiful day, 60 degrees outside. Then have to race home from school to take Maxi to the vet to get her nails clipped, and being that she hates the vet it makes it even more time consuming, then get to work by 12:30 and then work til 9.

Does that ever sound like one of your days?

I usually have one of those days about once a month; and they are NOT fun! It’s kind of like everything falls on one day, and of course there’s never enough time in a day and everything must be done by the end of the day and you’re just like…where did my day go?

Plus with Sunday being a holiday, you have to go grocery shopping and cooking….is anyone else in need of a mani/pedi or massage?!

So here I am with Maxi in the half an hour before going into work, watching the Nate Berkus show, learning awesome styling tips for my home, wishing I was at opening day for the Orioles instead!! Beer, good friends wearing that cute Victoria’s Secret baseball shirts they have for their spring line for every team, with Mike wasting my Friday away.

But without days like this we can’t appreciate the days we do have to lay around doing nothing but drinking ice tea out on our porch watching the birds on the bird feeder or going on that date that you’ve been waiting all week for.

With so much stuff going on this week, and even today, it’s hard to lose sight of the things that really matter and to always take a little time out for yourself each day, like right now, taking time to write this blog post even though yes, I could be cleaning the kitchen, cleaning my room, doing some laundry, but with less than a half an hour before work, it’s so important to just take a little time, even if you  don’t have an hour to yourself, even as little as 10 minutes to yourself to regroup and say “I can get through the day”.

I’m so thankful for Mike, who even though he has 30 things going on at once he always makes time for me whenever I have a problem or need to talk to him, or if things get too stressful he’s always there to talk about it, or try and help me brainstorm ways to fix the problem.

What are some of the things that you are grateful for in this fast pace week?

Countdown to Summer!

Happy April everyone!

Now that it’s officially spring (although the weather outside seems to differ, 56 degrees!) I’m making my Countdown to Summer. 45 days until the end of the semester, 43 Days until Mike & I’s anniversary, I’m thinking that may is going to be an amazing month.

I’ve already bought the bikini, and am on Week # 5 of working out, I’ve lost 2 inches off my waist and 5 pounds! I’ve made the decision for this summer to be the best no matter what.

And in order for the summer to be the best, what could be more appropriate than a new summer wardrobe?

Winter Kate Spring Line. Nicole Richie

The outfit to the left is a bohemian style that I am loving for Summer 2012. It’s by Nicole Richie, who in my opinion has become a great style icon. It’s cute for that vacation with the girls, or with your boyfriend down in Mexico, or just riding around town in adorable sandals (such as the ZooShoo ones to the right) getting ice cream.

ZooShoo Bamboo Willow Orange

Which, by the way I plan to do a lot of this summer. Vacations, (when Mike & I can) day trips to the beach, summer concerts, going out to new and exciting restaurants. Needless to say, this summer will be one of the best.

Of course there are some staple summer pieces that are a must in your closet for Summer 2012.

First Staple Piece: Jean Jacket.
A Jean Jacket can go so many ways in summer fashion, whether it be a floral print dress or skirt and a tank top, you can get one in white, dark wash or light wash (depending on your skin tone) and you will look amazing.

Second Staple Piece:  A Pair of White Shorts.
Hear me out before you say, “They will get so dirty!” I have two pairs of white shorts and with a tan, they look so adorable, guys will be looking at you, and girls will be asking where you got those shorts.

Third Staple Piece: Crop Top.
This can be in any color, I have one in gray and one in white, they are so cute with jean shorts or a skirt (and with that jean jacket) it shows off that adorable tummy you’ve been working all winter on perfecting, and it’s perfect for those hot days where you want really nothing more than to go out in your bikini and walk around town, but unless you live at the beach, the “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem” rule doesn’t apply to us.

Fourth Staple Piece: The Perfect Bikini.
This is probably number one of everyone’s list, and as it should be. Victoria’s Secret has some really cute ones, a little bit pricey, I bought mine from there, but so worth it. You will not be disappointed when you buy quality over quantity of swim suits.  White, Blue, Green, Red, Mix & Match. The beauty of swim suits is that you can wear any color, any style, and you can rock it.
